Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick

What is the Anointing of the Sick?
The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing through which Christ brings His strength, peace, and grace to those who are seriously ill, preparing for surgery, weakened by age, or nearing the end of life. Through the prayer of the Church and the anointing with the blessed oil, the faithful are more closely united to Christ, receive spiritual comfort and forgiveness, and are strengthened to face the challenges of illness with hope and trust in God.

Who is the Sacrament for?
The sacrament is intended for any baptized Catholic who is seriously ill, facing a major operation, experiencing the frail of old age or whose health has significantly declined. Is is best to receive the sacrament early in the course of an illness and not to wait until the final moments of life.

Requesting the Sacrament
If you or a loved one would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the parish office to arrange a visit from the priest.

In the event of a hospital emergency, please ask the hospital staff or switchboard to contact the on-call Catholic priest immediately.
