First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion is an important milestone in a child’s life of faith. In the Eucharist, we receive the Real Presence of Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine. Having begun their journey through Baptism, children are nourished by the Eucharist and grow in their relationship with Christ and His Church.

Who can receive First Holy Communion?
Children who are baptized Catholic and are at least 7 years of age (or have begun Grade 2) are invited to prepare for First Holy Communion.
If your child has not been baptized or is older than the usual age for preparation, please contact the parish office so we can discuss the appropriate preparation.

Preparation at Saint Ann Parish
Children attending our local Catholic schools (St. Ann, St. Joachim, Immaculate Conception, and Holy Name of Mary) normally prepare for First Holy Communion during Grade 2 as part of their faith formation.
Children attending public or private schools are warmly welcomed to prepare through the parish. A diocesan-based preparation program is offered to ensure every child has the opportunity to receive this sacrament.

Registration
Registration for First Holy Communion takes place each year in the fall.
